While there are plenty of reasons to love Ben & Jerry’s as a company for their social awareness and philanthropic values, it really all comes down to great ice cream made from good ingredients. When you get a chance to indulge in a free scoop, you need to take it. The time is nigh, Chicagoans.

Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Truck will tour the streets of Chicago through Aug. 26, handing out servings of their new line of Core Ice Cream, which debuted last February. In pint form, the new ice creams feature a thick core of fudge, jam or caramel in the center, making it’s way into each spoonful. The Scoop Truck is offering two of the five core flavors, which we tried at a recent media tasting: salted caramel, a sweet cream ice cream with blondie bits and a salted caramel core; and "Hazed & Confused," a duo of hazelnut and chocolate ice creams with a hazelnut fudge core.

While the Scoop Truck has been a regular presence on the East and West coasts for a couple years now, this is the first trip to Chicago. The truck (the same vehicle that was on the East Coast tour) will pop-up at local events, businesses and non-profits in various areas around the city. Follow @BenJerrysTruck to see where the tour is or try tweeting the truck to see if it will come to you. A Storyteller will also tour with the Scoop Truck, gaining the insider scoop and sharing it with the world via their blog.

If you fall in love with the core flavors, know that 2015 might have some new innovations and surprises, but for now, indulge in the glory that is free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
