Heather Mack, the Chicago teen accused with her boyfriend of murdering her mother Sheila von Wiese-Mack in Bali last week, is pregnant and claiming to have been abused physically and sexually while in prison, according to her attorney.
Mack’s Chicago attorney, Michael Elkin, confirmed that Mack is two months pregnant. Mack alleges she’s been sexually assaulted three times in the five days she’s been in prison, that officials would deprive her of food and water unless she speaks to police, and has suspicious needle marks on parts of her body. Elkin, who has been in telephone contact with Mack, said she sounded “dazed and confounded” as a result of a lack of water and being given what Mack calls “vitamin pills” being given to her by authorities.
Mack and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Tommy Schaeffer, are being held in suspicion with the murder of von Wiese-Mack. Von Wiese-Mack’s body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase by a taxicab driver last week. Under Indonesian law, Mack and Schaeffer can be held in prison and even start a trial while authorities investigate and make the case against them. If Mack and Schaeffer are convicted and found that the murder was pre-meditated, they face death by firing squad. Elkin, who said Mack is innocent, said a team of investigators, doctors and lawyers are set to travel to Indonesia to conduct their own investigation. The FBI is assisting Indonesian authorities gathering evidence for their investigation.
