- Hostess announced the company was closing its plant in Schiller Park, where Twinkies were invented, effective Oct. 9. The announcement was made on the same day as negotiations with the labor union representing the plant's worker was to begin. [Tribune]

- Gov. Pat Quinn declared Wednesday to be "Ice Bucket Challenge" day in Illinois. No word on if Bruce Rauner took the challenge and donated $10 to ALS-related causes, followed by another six-figure donation to his own gubernatorial campaign. [IGNN]
