Victim Of Time Throws A Chicago Label Showcase And Record Fair

With a reputation for embracing local and lesser-known acts, Chicago is, not surprisingly, home to a dizzying number of independent record labels that reflect that city’s diverse and vibrant music scene. This weekend, a whole bunch of them are getting together for a big old bash hosted by the lovely people at Victim of Time and Stoli—a Chicago label showcase and record fair.
The showcase and fair takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22 and 23, at the Volcano Room, the upstairs room of the Bottom Lounge. While the record fair is only on Saturday, the showcase runs both days with performances by The Yolks, The Rubs, Basic Cable, Heavy Times, White Gold and a handful of other local acts, including some secret special guests. Perhaps most notably, HoZac’s Mickey will reunite for a special set Saturday evening. Check out the full lineup below and make sure to show up early on Friday, because the first 20 people through the door get a free record/CD pack from HoZac. Music starts at 8 p.m. both nights.
The record fair portion, which is free and lasts from noon to 5 p.m., will feature private dealers selling records, reps from local labels and record stores and poster/print artists such as Bill Connors, Joe Schorgl and Ryan Duggan. The list of labels involved in this year’s fair is pretty impressive, including Permanent, HoZac, Moniker, Trouble In Mind, Randy Rex, Tall Pat and GARY. DJs will spin local tunes throughout the fair, and there will be free pinball for all.
