Whether you are looking for a high quality Halloween costume or simply want to enjoy a period piece while lounging at home, for those who enjoy the costume designs of the Lyric Opera soon is your time to own a piece of performance history. On Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Lyric Opera of Chicago will open their doors for a massive costume sale, selling more than 3,000 costume pieces from operas such as "Don Giovanni," "Die Fledermaus," "The Flying Dutchman" and many more.

According to the event page, prices will start at $1 and go up to $200. They will also accept all major credit cards as well as cash. There are no dressing rooms but customers will be able to try on costumes over their clothing at the event. So make sure to wear leggings and a light shirt, nothing too bulky. And don't come expecting to haggle, all pieces are final sale and sold as is.

The Tribune spoke to spokeswoman Magda Krance about some of the items available at the sale. Some of the costumes date back to the 60s and possible items to snag include chain mail (perfect for weekends at the Bristol Renaissance Faire up in Wisconsin), fur and kimonos. The sale will be in the foyer of the opera house, and new pieces will be brought out as the day moves along. The Tribune also points out that the only prior Lyric Opera costume sale was in 2004, so if you missed out the first time around plan ahead and start your day early rummaging for vintage finds fit for the stage.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago Costume Sale is Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Civic Opera House (20 N. Upper Wacker Dr.) Cash and major credit card will be accepted and all items will be final sale.
