Almost 70,000 Still Without Power After Friday Night Storm

About two-thirds of ComEd customers who lost power during Friday's evening's calamitous storms were still without it as of early Saturday morning. ComEd sent an update about the power outages, which numbered about 110,000 homes at the storm's start, through its Twitter account.

"The vast majority of our customers will have service restored by Sunday night with a small number in the hardest hit areas restored early Monday," the ComEd site read, in an early Saturday morning update.
ComEd also shared some safety tips.

The storms, which hit the worst in the Northwest and Northern suburbs, proved fatal in one case. Winnetka woman Molly Glynn was hit and killed by a falling tree.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for multiple counties Friday evening. The Sun-Times has video of storm damage in Lincoln Park.
