If you look at the Exhibitions page for the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Chicago, a live clock will tell you exactly how much time you have until their next opening, David Bowie Is. From September 23 until January 4, 2015, the David Bowie Is retrospective will examine the influential career of an extraordinary man.

Festivities have already started, as the MCA Chicago held a Bowie Galasponsored by Louis Vuitton. With tables going for tens of thousands of dollars, we figured that might be a little too rich for your blood. Don't worry, though, we're here to offer you a Bowie-centric playlist that will have you all set to throw your very own gala—or at least a one-person dance party.

Our playlist features many Bowie originals, as well as covers and remixes of both popular and lesser-known tracks.

Songs to note:

"Magic Dance" is off of the soundtrack to the 1986 film, Labyrinth, in which Bowie plays a baby-stealing goblin king with a famous codpiece. You can't make this stuff up! This track is greatly improved by a visual.

"As the World Falls Down", covered here by Australian-born, German-based musician Josh the Cat, is also from Labyrinth.

The cover of "Space Oddity" by Chris Hadfield, as many of you may know, was performed on the International Space Station. Bowie gave the astronauts permission to use the song for a year aboard the ISS and Hadfield created a pretty beautiful video to go along with it.
