Burger Joint To Call Former Hot Doug's Space Home

A new tenant is lined up for the former Hot Doug’s space and the corpse of Chicago’s “encased meat emporium” is not even cold yet. But will the new concept bring the long lines and obsessed fandom Doug Sohn enjoyed for years?
The folks behind Fatso’s Last Stand and Lockdown have signed a lease on the space and are planning on opening Frank Meats Patty, a burger joint, sometime in December. General Manager Bob Corbett told Chicago magazine to expect an array of burgers, hot dogs, and other sandwiches such as shrimp po’boy sandwich and a Juicy Lucy variant called an Ooey Gooey. Corbett added there would be tributes to Hot Doug’s on the menu including duck fat fries on weekends and a game burger of the month.
Customers of Fatso’s Last Stand will recognize the shrimp po’boy and Ooey Gooey as staples of that restaurant’s secret menu. That menu will become a regular fixture at Frank Meats Patty. Corbett and his crew get the keys to the former Hot Doug’s space Nov. 1 and hope to have it ready for a Dec. 1 opening.
