Music Video Of The Day: Sinéad O'Connor 'Take Me To Church'

One truly never knows what to expect from Sinéad O'Connor, which can make the experience of listening to her music range from absolutely amazing to rather frustrating at times. After a series of turns that left fans at times perplexed O'Connor has suddenly veered back into the realm of more straightforward pop for themost part on her new album I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss. The result is one of her strongest—and most immediately enjoyable—releases in quite a while. We're not saying the side roads she's explored along the way weren't fine in their own right, but it's nice to hear O'Connor readily embrace some of the songwriting muscles she's flexed less than others in recent years.
Listen to one fine example of this rejuvenating approach while watching the video for the album's first single, "Take Me To Church," below. O'Connor is in town closing out a three night stand at City Winery tomorrow and while the show is sold out, you do have the option of asking to be added to a wait list in case tickets open up. After listening to her new album we think that'd probably a good idea.
Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
