'Amazing Grace' at the Bank of America Theatre.

Skip over the sexy kittens and take in some real costume work this week on the Chicago stage.

Amazing Grace
Catch one of the last performances of Amazing Grace—one of the strongest Chicago tryouts within the past couple years—before it makes its way to New York to fulfill Broadway aspirations. Bring the tissues—the story of the seminal hymn’s origin has its share of heartbreak and tender moments. The show runs through Sunday, Nov. 2.

Broadway in Chicago at the Bank of America Theatre, 18. W. Monroe, 312-977-1700 or online.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore
Martin McDonagh’s 2001 black comedy is a violent affair that satirizes the ‘90s-era Northern Ireland peace process. The show runs through Sunday, Nov. 23.

AshtonRep Theatre Company at the Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark St., 773-828-9129 or online.

Iphigenia in Aulis
Take in the first installment of the Court Theatre’s three-year cycle of Greek plays with an ancient tale by Euripides. Expect lots of bloodshed between Greece and Troy, interference from the goddess Artemis and even human sacrifice—all in the name of self-proclaimed power. The show runs Thursday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 7.
