Last Minute Plans: Blonde Redhead at Bottom Lounge Monday

By Carrie McGath in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 2, 2014 7:15PM

Blonde Redhead will be at Bottom Lounge on Monday night as part of the Midwest leg of their tour to promote Barragán, their first studio album since 2010's Penny Sparkle. Their live performances characteristically glide between sending the audience into a shoegazing reverie and inducing them to move to crisp dance beats often tinged with stripped-down rock.

Always the prolific band, Barragán highlights their variances of style and mood. It is dreamy and poetic and then moves into more straightforward pop-rock veins. The breadth of the tracks is cohesive and well-ordered, making it a perfect record to play from start to finish, uninterrupted.

Over the course of Blonde Redhead's career, members Kazu Makino, Amedeo Pace, and Simone Pace have consistently grown and sonically experimented album to album. Theirs is a growth and experimentation that is very organic, with idyllic lyrics fitting so naturally with ethereal and fully-realized scores.

Monday night's show at Bottom Lounge will undoubtedly showcase their dynamic stage presence that resides alongside their equally dynamic music created throughout their over twenty-year career. Barragán attests to the fact that the group has no plans to stop making these complex compositions layered with trademark harmonies threaded with deeply raw lyricism.
