Our weekend theater is a full-length 1971 documentary called The Murder of Fred Hampton, in honor of the 45th anniversary of the Black Panther Party member's death.
The Harvard Film Archive writes that the film depicts Hampton's "brutal murder by the Chicago police and its subsequent investigation, but also documents his activities in organizing the Chapter, his public speeches, and the programs he founded for children during the last eighteen months of his life." Watch the 90-minute feature below:
Be sure to also listen to WBEZ's coverage Thursday of the anniversary of Hampton's death as well.
