Heroes, misfits and comedians grace the Chicago stage this week.

Pericles
One of Shakespeare’s truly funny comedies is about the swashbuckling hero Pericles and his quest to find his long-lost daughter and recover the love he knew in his youth. Bonus: There’s pirates. The show runs through Sunday, Jan. 18.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater, 800 E. Grand Ave., 312-595-5600 or online.

Twist Your Dickens
If you haven’t made it to the Goodman lately, the theater's collaboration with The Second City—an irreverent comedy that satirizes the beloved Dickens’ tale—has been extended through Jan. 3.

Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn St., 312-443-3800 or online.

Airline Highway
Catch playwright Lisa D’Amour’s production of Airline Highway before it opens on Broadway in the spring. Set in New Orleans, the show revolves around a motley burlesque crew and the pre-death funeral of the group’s most iconic star. The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 8.

Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted, 312-335-1650 or online.
