Last-Minute Plans: Oozing Wound, Den at Cole's

By Jon Graef in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 13, 2014 9:30PM

Local noiseniks Den bring along Chicago thrashers Oozing Wound for a free record release show at Cole's tonight. Den released their debut album, Exhausted, earlier this week on local label BLVD Records, who, after some time off, are picking things back up again. The Chicago Reader, in premiering a stream of the album, called Den "weirdo-hardcore-Krautrock." The group is definitely out there, but in ways that'll make experimental music fans fiend for Den.

Joining them are headliners Oozing Wound, the local thrash throwback four-piece with roots in Chicago's noise scene. In October, they released their sophomore album, Earth Suck, which is a grimier, doomier yin to its predecessor's sci-fi horrorshow yang. The riffs are still thrashy as ever, but the Wound manage to cram in some vulnerability ("I've lost the will to live an honest life," goes the Ozzy-esque opening line to first Suck track "Going Through The Motions Til I Die") with their sardonic speed metal. Expect Cole's to get loud tonight.

Oozing Wound, Den, Wishgift, and Foul Tip play Cole's, 2338 N. Milwaukee Ave., 21+, FREE, 9 p.m.
