The cool side of the pillow that has been a gray December has been above average temperatures. We note this because, well, that's going to come to a screeching halt come late afternoon. Temperatures across the area are already above the forecast high, buoyed by gusty southwest winds. Those winds shift northwest later today and bring about some cold air that will have mercury readings plunging as we head into the final days of 2014. Sunday will see sunny skies and highs in the mid-30s. But the chill will already be underway and we could be looking at a deep freeze come New Year's Eve.
