Beat Cabin Fever With Free Museum Days

Winter in Chicago, besides the sometimes brutal cold and snow, is also when area museums and cultural institutions front load the majority of their free admission days in an attempt to spur foot traffic and get people out of their homes. For us, it gives us hooky options that don’t involve drinking ourselves into a stupor wishing for spring to arrive as we sit unbathed at home plowing through our Netflix and Amazon Prime queues.

Here is a list of free days being offered by Chicago museums this winter.

Adler Planetarium
Free admission Jan. 5-7, Jan. 12-14, Jan. 19-21 and Jan. 26-28.

Field Museum
Free admission Jan. 5-7 and Jan. 14-15.

Art Institute of Chicago
Free Winter Weekdays Jan. 5 through Feb. 10 for all Illinois residents. Additionally, the Art Institute is free on Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m.

Shedd Aquarium
Free to Illinois residents Jan. 5-6, Jan. 12-13, Jan. 18-20 and Jan. 23-27.

Museum of Science and Industry
Free days Jan. 5-9, Jan. 12-16, Jan. 19-23 and Jan. 26-30.

Chicago History Museum
Jan. 5-9, Jan. 12-15, Jan. 19-23 and Jan. 26-30.
