Take in a new kind of stage show with these out-of-the-box theater events, all kicking off this week.

Fillet of Solo Festival
Lifelife Theatre’s 18th-annual event kicks off this weekend with three weeks of storytelling, live lit and monologue performances, and general artsy fun. The festival runs through Sunday, Jan. 25.

Performances are held at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., and Heartland Studio Theatre, 7016 N. Glenwood Ave., 773-761-4477 or online.

Airline Highway
If you haven’t caught Lisa D’Amour’s enthralling ode to New Orleans and a ragtag group of friends who call it home, now’s your chance. Bonus: Next Saturday’s production will feature live music, Big Easy-themed cuisine and poetry performances in between the matinee and evening performances. The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 8. The post-performance event takes place Saturday, Jan. 17.

Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted, 312-335-1650 or online.

The Book of Dionysus
Everyone’s favorite cabaret-slash-theater is putting on a Greek-mythology-themed comedy tinged with some Chicago roots. The show runs Saturdays from Saturday, Jan. 10 through Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Public House Theater, 3914 N. Clark St., 800-650-6449 or online.
