A man clearing snow from his sidewalk came upon a grisly discovery: a woman dead in the snow. The woman, Elizabeth Lutz, was discovered by the man around 6 p.m. Monday on 6800 block of Dobson in Niles.

The man had been shoveling for about 40 minutes when he thought he found a garbage bag, only to find Lutz, 55, lying face down in the parkway. Attempts to revive Lutz were not successful and she was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

A police report revealed Lutz was wearing winter clothing, and there were no visible signs of injury on her body. Autopsy results from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office are pending. Let this be a reminder to do wellness checks on your elderly and infirm relatives and neighbors and there are warming centers located throughout the city to help you beat the cold.
