An 18-year-old was questioned by police and released in connection with the December mugging of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's son Zach near the Emanuel family home. The man was taken into custody in Uptown around 9:40 a.m. to be questioned about a stolen iPhone, which police spokesman Martin Maloney later said was Zach Emanuel's.

RedEye spoke with the teen's mother, who said her son received the phone from someone else and later sold it online. She added her son was on target to graduate in the spring and attend college later this year.

Zach Emanuel was mugged near the Emanuel family's North Center home Dec. 19. The mayor addressed his son's mugging during a news conference and said Zach was doing fine, but that the crime highlighted "blind spots" in safety on the block where the Emanuel's live that need to be addressed.
