With Valentine’s Day just (or thankfully) a month away, The Newberry Library has opened a new exhibit exploring love notes through the ages. Love on Paper was curated by the Newberry's own staff and features an eclectic mix of mediums and emotions. Ranging from traditional heart-shaped cutouts, to cartoon comics and even covers of sheet music, each note displays a unique proclamation of love. The messages range in sentiment from the overly sincere to the cynical and as the Newberry explains, “This variety amounts to a statement not only about love, but about paper’s capacity to convey otherwise inexpressible feelings.”

Attendees who find inspiration in the exhibit can visit on Feb. 11 to craft their own paper notes of adoration. Make Love on Paper, a Valentine-making workshop, provides romantics with the materials they need to create a pop up heart-shaped hallmarks with their own personal message. Visitors can explore Love on Paper now through April 4.

The Newberry Library is located at 60 West Walton Street.
