It's an important thing to laugh. It cleans out your system in the same way a good cry does, with less tissue and other detritus.

We're in a city known for good comedy and we're lucky enough to host comedians from all over the world. This weekend, that includes Demetri Martin, who made a last second announcement he'd be at the Athenaeum Theatre Saturday night. If you aren't familiar with Martin, this New York native is one of the best comics from the "alternative" scene. His prior work includes appearances on The Daily Show as well as one of our personal late night favorites Important Things.

While we might cringe at the general use of the term "alternative scene" when it relates to comedy, Demetri Martin certainly has a unique style. If you haven't been privy to his dry tautology, amusing drawings and crisp one-liners, it'll certainly make his show stand out from the pack. We liken him to several different types of comedians all rolled into one. He has the intelligence and complete oddity of Emo Philips, the straight-man face and dry wit of Ben Stein and the razor sharp one-liners familiar to fans of comedians like Stephen Wright.

The 7 p.m. show at the Athenaeum has already sold out, but that just gives you time to have a nice dinner nearby before hitting the 10 p.m. set that still has tickets available.

If you were struggling to escape the doldrums of late January, this is a great way to do that. Grab tickets here and thank us later.
