The Blackhawks are now 1-2 on their six-game road trip after running into a brick wall in former Hawk Antti Niemi at SAP Center Saturday.Niemi blanked the Blackhawks with a 31 save shutout. Niemi was on point, especially when the Sharks were shorthanded, and he improved to 7-7-1 since the Hawks traded him to San Jose after winning the 2010-11 Stanley Cup.

It was a defensive struggle throughout but San Jose's Melker Karlsson found net against the Hawks' Antti Raanta in the first period. Raanta faced 19 shots and saved 18. Joe Thornton scored an empty netter for San Jose.
