New York City gets a blizzard warning and eight million freak out and make a run for toilet paper. Here in the Midwest we make a stiff drink and wait for the snow to materialize. After a very mild January (more on last month's averages later) we start February with a blizzard warning until midnight and a winter storm warning until 2 p.m.

We could be in store for up to 15 inches of snow today and the wind gusts could reach 40 mph. When that happens, expect the temps to drop quick as we settle in for our second run of bitter cold weather this winter.

We've been getting off light so far this winter. Consider this keeping us honest.
