The 2015 International Kennel Club Of Chicago Dog Show was this past weekend at McCormick Place. Unfortunately due to the blizzard on Sunday, many of the dogs and owners competing had to leave early to avoid getting snowed in after competition schedules were rearranged. But those who trudged through the snow Sunday were still rewarded with fluffy pups to pet and a variety of demonstrations. There weren't as many dogs Sunday but the lack of crowds were a welcome to locals enjoying the competition floor.
After stopping and dropping some donations in the vests of rescue groups and their dogs, we said hello to some well-coiffed pups who were busy competing during the weekend. And then we of course had to catch some demonstrations. A highlight was the World Canine Freestyle Organization and their exhibition numbers. Our favorite was a duo with matching custom outfits dancing to Katy Perry's "Roar."
Other highlights included a performance of an original play that showcased a variety of breeds doing all sorts of tricks, including crashing through stunt brick walls and skateboarding. And a drill team performing while wearing some pretty snazzy vests.
All the dogs performing were having a fun time and it really showed how being active and engaging with your pet helps keep them young and active. One "Sassy Senior" division dog dancer was evidence of that, as he gracefully moved across the ring during a slow dance number despite being 14-years-old.
We had another great time at the IKC Dog Show despite the weather and can't wait to meet more furry friends next year!
