Extra Extra: Cop Acquitted In Beanbag Shooting Of World War II Vet

  • Park Forest Police Officer Craig Taylor was acquitted on a reckless conduct charge today. Taylor fired a shotgun loaded with beanbags at a World War II veteran at Victory Centre nursing home. The vet was agitated and wielding a knife and died hours later from the injuries sustained during the incident. [Sun-Times]
  • A man with brass knuckles was arrested after beating up another man Tuesday night at the Damen Blue Line station. The victim was trying to intervene during a fight Brian Mallet was having with his girlfriend. Mallet was charged with battery, reckless conduct, resisting arrest and possession of a deadly weapon.   • A Gurnee man has been charged with multiple felony counts of reproducing child pornography after police found thousands of images and videos of children, some younger than 13, at his home. [Tribune]
  • The two men convicted of killing off-duty Chicago police Officer Thomas Wortham IV both received life sentences. [Tribune]
  • A Bronzeville man returned home Monday morning to find his wife murdered. It was the couple's 24th wedding anniversary. Prosecutors have charged Dwight Brown, the victim's son, with first-degree murder and armed robbery. [DNAinfo Chicago]
