Extra Extra: United Steelworkers Call For Labor Strike At BP Whiting

  • United Steelworkers is calling for their 1,085 members who work at BP Whiting Refinery to go on strike at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday. This effort will increase the number of national refineries where workers have walked off the job to 11. [Tribune]
  • Heads up Edgewater and Rogers Park, Northbound Red Line trains will be shut down in parts of the area for a few hours tomorrow. [DNAinfo Chicago]
  • There are now six confirmed cases of measles in Cook County. [Tribune]
  • Police are warning residents in West Town and Logan Square to be on the lookout after a string of garage robberies. [DNAinfo Chicago]
  • A Las Vegas man was arrested for a "swatting" incident that happened in Naperville. "Swatting" is when someone falsely reports a dangerous situation or crime to police so they are sent to another person's home. As the Sun-Times points out, it's "known as “swatting” because the hoax calls can lead to deployment of SWAT teams." [Sun-Times]
