'Spike Heels' at the Raven Theatre.
Love and acceptance in various forms—family, friends, first dates—is taking over the Chicago stage this week.
First Date
It may be a Valentine’s Day cliché, but the musical story of a blind date unfolding in real time is a charming night of theater for anyone—attached or otherwise. Tickets are being sold through Sunday, March 29.
Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted St., 312-988-9000 or online.
Spike Heels
It’s the last weekend to check out playwright Theresa Rebeck’s exploration of gender and socioeconomic politics, as seen through the eyes of a crass young woman being given a quasi-Pygmalion treatment by her well-educated peers. The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 8.
Brown Paper Box Co. at The Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark St., 773-338-2177 or online.
The Addams Family
The cartoon about a weird gothic family that spawned a TV show and several movies is now in musical format. Daughter Wednesday is in love—against her will, seemingly—and it’s time for her boyfriend to meet the family. The show runs through Sunday, April 5.
Mercury Theater, 3745 N. Southport Ave., 773-325-1700 or online.
