Last Minute Plans: Windy City Soul Club's Anti-Valentine's Day Party

2015_2_14WindyCitySoul.jpg While many of us celebrate Valentine's Day with the corny tradition of being gifted boxes of chocolate, bouquets of flowers and teddy bears from our significant others, for much of the world it is simply just another Saturday. Some opt to party it up on Galentine's Day instead with their friends, others simply title today "Singles Awareness Day" and around the Chicagoist offices we like to refer to today as the day before all the Valentine's candy is discounted at CVS.

If you're in the same camp and sorta over this Hallmark holiday BS, but still want to head out and enjoy your Saturday night, we've got a perfect option on our radar. No reservations needed and no smarmy couples with their not-at-all original proposals in sight. Windy City Soul Club and the Chicago Reader are hosting an Anti-Valentine's Day Party at Thalia Hall this evening. Festivities kick off at 8 p.m. with a hosted bar from Goose Island for the first hour. Make sure to arrive early, because the first 200 people through the door will receive a goodie bag with treats from The Pleasure Chest, one of our personal staff favorites. And if you meet a new special someone tonight on the dance floor, that goodie bag could come in handy. Pre-sale discounted tickets have sold out, but you can still grab entry at the door for $14. The event is 21+.

Thalia Hall is a beautiful space and if you haven't checked it out tonight would be the perfect excuse to do so. Spending the evening dancing to soul music sure beats Netflix and a box of conversation hearts. And have no fear, come morning you can roll out of bed and spend your Sunday stocking up on deeply discounted Reese's peanut butter hearts. It's the most wonderful time of the year.
