Music Video Of The Day: Juliana Hatfield Three 'If Only We Were Dogs'

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 19, 2015 11:30PM

While Juliana Hatfield has released a steady stream of albums throughout her career, it's been over twenty years since she last recorded with her bandmates in Juliana Hatfield Three. The trio produced two of the more memorable signs of the early indie boom crossover of the '90s with "My Sister" and "Spin The Bottle," but pulled the plug after a single album when Hatfield resumed her solo career.

Late last year Hatfield announced the band was getting back together, and fruits of that reunion, Whatever, My Love, was released earlier this week. The album see the trio not missing a beat, sounding as if it could have been recorded within months of its predecessor instead of years. Hatfield's dark and searing wit drives the lyrics and slashes at the guitars while Todd Philips and Dean Fisher supply a supple rhythm section.

Watch the first video from the album for "If Only We Were Dogs," a darkly humorous song paired with a visually disturbing treatment. Juliana Hatfield Three will be in town to play Lincoln Hall on March 7 and tickets are still available.

Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
