Take A Cruise To Canada From Chicago Starting This Summer

If your dream is traveling the Great Lakes up through Canada to Montreal on a luxury cruise line, get pumped. Great Lakes Cruise Company is about to launch their latest ship, the Saint Laurent, on a route between Chicago and Montreal set to start this July. The first trip starts in Montreal on July 5 and travels to Chicago, stopping along the way at Niagara Falls, Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, Sault Ste Marie (arriving on the Canadian side) and Mackinac Island before arriving in Chicago on day ten. Two voyage following the same route departing from Chicago are planned as well.
The Tribune reports that the ship has 105 staterooms, which is smaller than many of the ships that cruise the Caribbean due to size limitations that are in place by the Great Lakes' lock system. Despite its smaller size, it still looks pretty beautiful inside. And hey, theme dinners! Eh, we're more likely to spend our time in the onboard pub with a library.
Great Lakes Cruise Company already has cruises departing from Chicago, including destinations like Toronto and traveling through Wisconsin and Michigan, but this is the first route to reach all the way up to Montreal. That said, if you want to sail the not-so-high seas in style, it's going to cost you. Price per person for the Chicago and Montreal route range from $4,199 to $7,999. That doesn't include port taxes, air fare (the voyage is not roundtrip) and other miscellaneous charges and fees. Personally we'd rather find a friend with a boat for weekend adventures and book ourselves a cheaper flight and a vacation on our own to explore Montreal, but there are worse ways to spend your money. And it isn't a bad view and a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of our Great Lakes. We've never been on a cruise, so can't knock it if we haven't tried it.
