Icy weather always affects commutes, even in cities that are prepared for such a contingency. Commuters were reminded of that the hard way on CTA’s Green, Pink and Yellow Lines this morning, where passengers experienced lengthy delays and in some instances were removed from trains stuck on the tracks due to ice buildup.
Here is a snapshot of a Green Line train that was halted on the tracks in Bronzeville during the morning rush. Firefighters were called in to evacuate passengers and put them on another train.

The Green Line experienced most of the problems as trains were stopped due to icy tracks near the Garfield Park Conservatory and at California. Shuttle buses are running between 35th Street and 63rd Street to Clark and Lake. Yellow Line service is even worse.
Service update: Yellow Line service suspended, use #97 as alternative.
