Chris Janes, the Evergreen Park Little League coach whose complaints about how the Jackie Robinson West Little League team recruited players resulted in JRW being stripped of its U.S. championship, was arrested Tuesday on a bevy of charges stemming from an early morning incident a block from his home.

Janes, 39, was charged with disorderly conduct, assault, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, public intoxication and using threatening and vulgar language. Janes was at a bar Monday night with friends watching the Blackhawks’ win over Carolina. He left the bar and walked home, except he wound up one block east. Since most of the homes in his neighborhood look alike, Janes mistakenly believed he was locked out of his house.

Janes made things worse when he approached a woman entering her home shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. The woman ran into her hour through a side door. Janes banged on the door, swore and demanded the woman and her husband come outside. They did and didn’t recognize him; Janes continued to be belligerent so the couple called police.

Cops arrived to find Janes a couple houses north. According to Evergreen Park Police Capt. Pete Donovan, Janes refused to cooperate and pulled away from police when they tried to handcuff him.

Janes sounded contrite when asked about the incident.

"I thought I was going home. I went to the wrong house. After that, I really can't tell you what happened. I have no idea. I read the report, too, and I feel awful. I scared some poor lady. I treated the police poorly who have been so supportive of us," he said.

Janes was the first to complain about how some members of the Jackie Robinson West team didn’t live within the boundaries of recruiting for their team. An investigation by Little League International revealed JRW used a redrawn boundary map that wasn’t approved by other Little League districts to recruit players. Janes said he received death threats after JRW was stripped of its national title.
