Lula Café has always been about more than farm to table dinners and gourmet brunch. The restaurant is also known for embracing its neighborhood and local artists, which is why over the years they have also served up innovative works of contemporary art for the community to enjoy.

The Logan Square restaurant celebrated the latest batch of artwork to grace its walls with a reception for Over Under this past Tuesday night. The newest showcase features the woven work of local artists Samantha Bittman, Melissa Leandro, Christy Matson and Michael Milano.

Ranging from the symmetric and graphical work of Bittman, to the off kilter and three-dimensional work of Lendro, the collection is a colorful exploration of the lost art of weaving. Pieces were a far cry from cross-stitching and incorporated painting, ink and braiding with traditional fabrics and linens. Curators say the collection was selected because each piece is able to push the conversation around weaving and allows viewers to question what an artist really can create simply by weaving cloth over and under. Art-appreciators and Lula fans will be able to explore and enjoy this winter collection on display now through April 7.

Lula Café is located at 2537 N. Kedzie Blvd.
