Schwein And Steins: Celebrate Pork And Beer For A Cause At The Radler

By Melissa McEwen in Food on Mar 19, 2015 7:30PM

Next Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m., The Radler and Farm Butcher Table are hosting a Schwein and Steins dinner at The Radler to benefit Growing Home. The menu by Chef Nathan Sears and guest chef Kevin Willmann of Farmhaus Restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri, will be centered around the Mangalitsa pork raised by Farm Butcher Table in Iowa. And it will be paired with drink from Lagunitas Brewing and Chicago Distilling Company.

Mangalitsa are known for being adorably wooly and also because their meat is much more fatty than regular pork. Don't worry, you don't eat the wool, but you will eat this delicious menu:

1st course, The Radler

Evening bread “Abendbrot”

Rye bread, buckwheat bread, oat and dill bread, pretzels

Cherry mustard, smokey mustard, pickle salad

Smoked ham, ham stuffed potato dumplings, kassler rippchen (smoked pork loin)

2nd course, FarmHaus

Knockwurst, apple braised sauerkraut

Sweet and sour lentils

Marinated mushrooms

3rd course, FarmHaus

Pork belly Schweinbraten, pickled white asparagus

Bread dumplings, smoked trotter broth

Smashed carrots

4th course, The Radler

Bee Sting cake, pork fat pastry cream, roasted apples, oat and pork skin crumble

We've been to a couple of Farm Butcher Table events and we can confirm the pork is amazing. And it's only $65, which is a deal considering the amount of food and the pairings you'll receive.

Call The Radler at (773) 276-0270 for reservations.
