If You Love Scones, You're In Luck: Scone City To Open In Wicker Park

Do you love scones? Do you even think you might like scones a little? Are scones the new cupcake doughnut toast? If so, take note of the newest baked good trend: Scone City is set to open April 1 in Wicker Park. The new endeavor comes to us from Jess and Tim Canning, the wife and husband pair who co-own Lemon Tree Grocer in Downers Grove.

The Cannings started selling scones, made by pastry chef Laurie McNamara, at their local farmers market. They watched as the scones sold like— well, hot-cakes. For now, scones will be made at their Downers Grove store and transported fresh daily to Scone City. But if all goes as planned, the Cannings hope to have a full kitchen in back with space for McNamara to make her magic on-site.

Scone City will serve up between eight and ten varieties daily, including sweet options like cherry almond ginger and blueberry with lemon glaze, as well as savories like prosciutto gruyere and Brie and honey. Patrons can up the ante with add-ons like lemon curd, clotted cream and salted caramel drizzle. Logan Square's HalfWit Coffee Roasters will provide the beans and Rishi tea will also be available as accompaniment.
