Do This: Dove's Presents Coffee And A Chat With Art Shay

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 23, 2015 2:55PM

A warm cup of coffee and good conversation has sparked many a happy memory in our lives. From late nights in diners to watching the sun rise with a steaming mug, there is just something simple and lovely about this combination. So we were pretty excited when Dove's Luncheonette, who make a damn fine cup of coffee, announced that tomorrow morning they'll be hosting Coffee With At Dove's, a conversation with Art Shay.

Shay, a frequent Chicagoist contributor and legendary Chicagoan, will sit down with artist, writer, poet and actor Tony Fitzpatrick to chat about a variety of topics, including what Wicker Park was like long ago. He'll also discuss his new book My Florence: A 70 Year Love Story and of one of our favorite topics to hear him speak about, Nelson Algren. Shay has lived a lifetime most of us can only dream of having and is a treasure trove when it comes to stories about Chicago, history and the characters that make our home so special.

Join Tony and Art tomorrow, March 24, at 9 a.m. at Dove's Luncheonette (1545 N. Damen Ave) for Coffee With at Dove's, with Art Shay and Tony Fitzpatrick. The event is free to attend. (Editor's Note: Dove's let us know that the coffee will be free tomorrow as well, even better!) And stick around after to grab some delicious grub at the counter. We suggest an order of chicken fried chicken smothered in chorizo verde gravy topped with sweet peas and pearl onions and a fresh squeezed glass of grapefruit juice to wash it all down. If the conversation and coffee doesn't get you ready for the day, the hearty food should do the trick.
