The Name Game: Billy Corgan Wants To Now Be Called William

By Selena Fragassi in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 23, 2015 9:45PM

Everyone get out your Rolodexes and red pen. Billy Corgan now wants to be known as William Corgan. In a move that might “disarm” fans, the Smashing Pumpkins front man corrected a crowd in Peru when they attempted to sing to him on his birthday, which just so happens to be St. Patrick’s Day. The response was not so lucky. Watch the confusion start at the 2:23 mark.

“My name is not Billy. My name is William,” he corrected the crowd, throwing the proverbial birthday cake in their faces. Perhaps it was all in jest. He did smile at the audience when they began chanting “William! William!” before he carried on with the show after graciously stating that "my mother in heaven thanks you." So far his @billy Twitter handle is still intact. And a name change would be far from some of the weirder things Corgan has done. We’ll just have to see what name he puts on his autobiography.
