Timbaland At SXSW: Aaliyah Spoke To Me, Said Chicago's Tink Is 'The One'

Aside from a strong showing by Chicago artists, South By Southwest failed to produce much notable news this year. There was one story concerning local singer Tink that caught our eye though.

During a set at a Fader Fort showcase on Saturday night, super producer Timbaland took the stage alongside his 19-year-old protégé.

The hip-hop vet already put his full backing behind Tink last year when he signed her to his label imprint Mosley Music Group (which ultimately falls under the Sony Music Entertainment umbrella) but Tim took things one step further at the Austin festival when he revealed Tink's bubbling reputation has transcended the natural world.

"I don't touch any of my sister's records," he told the Fader Fort crowd. "I don't touch Baby Girl's records—you know that's Aaliyah. She spoke to me in my sleep and said "She's the one.'"

According to various reports, the bold claim came after Tink ran through a cover of Aaliyah's "One In A Million." We're more curious than ever now to hear the rising star's forthcoming album, which Timbaland raved about on The Breakfast Club in late 2014.

It's difficult to predict the future of young artists but one thing's for sure: Tink is bound to do Aaliyah's legacy more justice than Lifetime did.
