The Chicago Fire nabbed their first win of the season this past Sunday. This year has gotten off to a mostly inauspicious start for the Chicago team, as they now hold a record of 1-3-0. But they squeaked past the Philadelphia Union yesterday with a goal in the first half thanks to Brazilian central defender, Adailton, his first career MLS goal.

It was a victory both hard-won and by chance; although the Fire defense limited the number of Union shots to just seven, Philadelphia was playing without several key regulars like Cristian Maidana and Conor Casey. The Union lost yet another man in the second half when a frustrated Fred took a swing at the Fire's Harry Shipp, whose free kick actually set up Adailton's head-tipping and game-winning goal. Cooler heads, not Freds, prevailed and the Fire moves on to play the Toronto FC on April 4 in their own Toyota Park.
