WTTW, Chicago's public television station, has been our "window to the world" for almost 60 years now. As part of that mission the PBS affiliate has recently ventured into web series territory, bringing us its first original digital series, Central Standard: On Education, which followed five Chicago Public School students as they prepared for high school. And now they've debuted Foodphiles, which also focuses on local talent but in the culinary world.

Foodphiles profiles chefs, restaurateurs, mixologists and even baristas who have been contributing to and shaking up Chicago's food and beverage scene. The 13-part series takes viewers into the kitchen, behind the counter and even across international waters to explore the subject's businesses and backgrounds. It's definitely more than food porn; Dan Protess, the show's producer, said that while food is "a necessary and enjoyable thing," Foodphiles "offers a great window into culture, history and even politics."

The complete series is now available on a dedicated website that includes additional footage and even recipes. So head over there to check in with Scofflaw's Danny Shapiro or visit with Bryan Gryka of Milt's BBQ, Chicago's only kosher BBQ restaurant. You can also learn more about newcomer Raquel Dailey-Parham and her Puerto Rican restaurant in Bronzeville and chase that with a virtual trip to Devon Avenue, courtesy of Anupy Singla. Fair warning: you'll find yourself drooling even if you watch on a full stomach.
