Drink Up: Delilah's Hosts Vintage Beer Fest Sunday

By Sophie Day in Food on Apr 11, 2015 7:00PM

Beer enthusiasts who are looking for something to do this weekend, Delilah's has you covered. This Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m., the popular bar in Lincoln Park will be hosting one of their Vintage Beer Festivals.

The Vintage Beer Fests (which happen about five times a year) each focus on a specific style of beer. This weekend's edition will be the fourth annual one devoted to barrel-aged brews. The idea behind these events, according to owner Mike MIller, isn't about making a ton of money. Instead, the afternoons are about getting a bunch of cool people together to taste new beers and meet new people. Each event features beers from all over the place, some of which are available in multiple vintages.

Not unlike wine, beer continues to change when it is kept in the bottle. Granted, this generally leads to beers going skunk when not taken care of but, when stored properly, old beers continue to ferment and mature and taste entirely different than they would have when they were originally bottled. At the last Vintage Beer Fest, I had the pleasure of sampling two bottles of the same Dogfish Head beer from batches that were ten years apart.

Vintage Beer Fest is being held Sunday, April 12 from 12 to 5 p.m. $20 will get you twenty drink tickets, but attendance is otherwise free.
