A Megabus that left Chicago early this morning crashed in central Indiana, injuring nineteen passengers.
Officials say the collision, which involved three other vehicles, happened around 5:30 a.m. The Megabus, which was headed to Atlanta with 63 passengers, collided with a stopped semi-truck on Interstate 65, pushing it into two passenger vehicles ahead. ABC News reported that the bus had trouble stopping, an account that’s supported by at least one passenger's statement: "We tried to swerve off, but she [the driver] didn't swerve fast enough I guess, which is actually good because the front right of our bus hit the back left of the semi, and I think that kept us from flipping."
The nineteen injured passengers were all taken to Indiana hospitals and treated for minor injuries and Megabus brought an additional bus to transport the remaining passengers to their Atlanta destination. This is the fourth Megabus crash in Indiana since last fall, when NBC Chicago investigated the bus company's spotty history in Chicago, following the Oct. 14, 2014 accident that injured 26 passengers on the same route.
