This week we really had a craving for cod for some reason. So we checked out two new establishments that serve the often under-appreciated flaky white fish in its best incarnation: fried.

The first is Bruges Brothers, a new food truck that serves up Belgium-style fries fried in duck and beef fat with a variety of insanely ostentatious toppings that are difficult to chose from. The cod topping is a filet of golden beer-battered fish covered in a bath of tangy comeback sauce, a form of remoulade. It's a gloriously delicious rendition of fish and chips.

Then there are the fish sticks (they call them "styx") at Brass Monkey (401 N Morgan St.), which looks like any old bland fish sticks you grew up on, which makes it all the more surprising that they are crispy on the outside and warm and meaty on the inside with an infusion of smoky Spanish paprika. It's even better when you dip them in their creamy tartar sauce.

Have you tried these dishes? What's your favorite fried cod?
