Megabus Rider Subdues Gunman On Bus Bound For Minneapolis

A Megabus rider helped nab a fellow passenger with a gun Tuesday night, after he heard a gunshot coming from the bus bathroom.

The bus left Chicago around 11 p.m. and was heading west on I-90 when Kenneth Smith, a 28-year-old man on his way to see his 6-year-old son, heard the sound of a gunshot coming from the bus's bathroom. As Smith told the Chicago Tribune, he quickly wrestled the man to the floor and pulled the gun away from him with the help of other passengers:

"I was scared, he was being real irate, it was a really scary situation ... If he let one gunshot off, there was nothing stopping him from taking another shot … I grabbed him and told him to leave the bus driver alone ... He told me to mind my business, so I pushed him."

The gunman was arrested by state troopers at the Des Plaines Oasis and no injuries were reported. Charges are pending.

Passengers were relocated to another bus bound for Minneapolis and resumed their journey two hours behind schedule.

Chicago's Megabuses have faced a rash of crashes and other harrowing incidents in recent months, including a crash in Indiana that injured 19 passengers last month.
