  • The word coming out of Des Moines is that the Chicago Bulls are close to announcing Fred Hoiberg as its new coach, replacing the recently ousted Tom Thibodeau. Hoiberg is a former Bull who had success leading the team at Iowa State. [ABC7]

  • Riot Fest is going big when it comes to Douglas Park this September. Organizers are reportedly looking to host nine stages, according to recently submitted layouts. Two of them will purposely be for the Riot Fest Speaks Stage and the all-day performance of the Showbiz Pizza animatronic band. [RedEye]

  • On Saturday, Lennie Merullo died at the age of 98. He was the oldest living former Cubs player, the only one left from the 1945 World Series team. [Tribune]

  • The latest boutique coffeeshop opens on Monday. Groundswell is located at 839 N. Damen Ave. in Lincoln Square and will be notable for its single origin coffees, roasted onsite. [DNAinfo Chicago]

  • The Taste of Chicago has announced the 60 restaurants that will be participating in this year's food fest. Among them are 19 brand-new entrants. [WGN]
