Jesse Jackson Jr. is back in his Washington, D.C. home, ankle bracelet in tow, after a three month stint in a halfway house following his release from prison.
Jackson, a former congressman from the South Side, pleaded guilty in 2013 to spending about $750,000 in campaign funds for his personal use (specifically home furnishings, luxury clothing and Bruce Lee memorabilia), and went to federal prison in October of that year. He has been in a Baltimore halfway house since March.
Jackson's wife, Sandi Jackson, a former South Shore alderman who has been at home with their children while Jackson was in prison, will begin her prison sentence for filing false tax returns in October, within a month after Jackson's home confinement ends.
Jackson told reporters at his D.C. home Monday morning that he has been working on a memoir, according to the Sun-Times. He displayed about 40 notebooks of his writings on a dining room table in his home, along with his prison boots and many of the books he read while in prison. He also showed the Sun-Times reporter three paintings he got from his fellow prison cellmates, which were titled, Shame, Blame and Guilt.
Jackson will be required to spend three years on supervised release and complete 500 hours of community service following the end of his sentence.
