Delayed Southwest Flight Caught Fire On Runway At Midway

Wednesday was not a great day to travel this week. After a little "network connectivity issue" grounded all United flights for hours, last night the engine of a Southwest flight out of Midway caught fire on takeoff.
The flight took off at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night, bound for Boston. The plane was heading down the runway when, suddenly, the engine caught on fire, WGN reports. One passenger caught some video of the incident, and it is kind of our worst nightmare.

A Chicago Fire Department spokesman told WGN that the cause of the fire was unknown, but the incident did trigger an "EMS Plan 1," which calls for six ambulances, along with fire trucks, to arrive at the scene. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and the plane was evacuated without incident. All passengers were later loaded onto another flight, which landed in Boston early this morning.
