Last weekend's rise in temperatures caused the first heat-related death of the year in Chicago, claiming the life of a South Austin woman.
The woman, Ellean WIlliams, 69, was pronounced dead Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Cook County authorities announced in a release.
Williams' death was caused by a combination of heart disease and heat stress as temperatures hit the 90s Saturday and Sunday. A suburban Cook County woman also died from similar causes over the weekend, according to Fox Chicago.
This summer has so far been unseasonably cool some experts say. But the dangerous of the heat still loom large in the minds of many Chicagoans with the passing of the 20th anniversary of the heat wave that claimed over 700 lives in the city over five days in 1995.
