Three Chicagoans were killed in fatal shootings around the city this weekend, and 37 more were wounded by gunshots, including a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, according to authorities.
Those shootings bring the number of shootings for the year in Chicago up to over 1,633, according to the Tribune—higher by several hundred than where Chicago was by this time last year or the year before—and the number of homicides to 272, up from 236 in 2014.
A young girl and boy were shot in separate incidents Sunday evening, according to authorities. The girl was shot in the leg at about 8:40 p.m. in Englewood and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition. The boy was shot during a drive-by shooting while riding in a gray car with a 19-year-old man on the city's Northwest Side. Each passenger was hit by gunfire, and the boy was taken to Community First Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, the Tribune reports.
In the weekend's three fatal shootings, a 22-year-old man was reportedly killed at a house party in South Austin early Sunday morning; four others were wounded. Another man was killed on the southern lakefront near Oakland early Sunday morning; and a third man was found dead from gunshot wounds in West Pullman. Several more weekend shootings led groups of three or more people shot at once, according to the Tribune, in university Village, North Austin, West Englewood, and Bush.
