Have you ever wandered through the Loop looking for a Walgreens and had a difficult time finding one of the chain's 10 locations?
Walgreens has good news for you. The Deerfield company is opening its 11th Loop store in the old Sears space at 2 N. State St., Crain’s reported.
Rival CVS was interested in leasing part of the space last year but the talks fell through, Crain’s reported. CVS currently has eight Loop locations, according to a quick Google search.
It won't be as upscale as the flagship Walgreens location at 151 N. State St., according to the Tribune.
"It's a high-profile location, but the space will be closer to a typical neighborhood Walgreens," spokesman Philip Caruso said. "It's not unusual for us to have locations in close proximity in high-traffic urban areas."
Phew. We were beginning to wonder if we had hallucinated some of them.
The Loop has been increasing in popularity with apartment dwellers and retailers. The neighborhood’s retail vacancy rate has dropped from 18.2 percent in 2004 to 10.8 percent thanks to moves made by Walgreens and other big box chains.
